An Essay about Peace:

In My Life and Tale of Two Cities

What does peace mean to you? Peace can mean many different things to many different people. Possibly peace means no fighting, or possibly it means being at peace with yourself. Peace takes place in my own life, A Tale of Two Cities, and A Rainy Morning.

Peace takes on many shapes and forms in my life. A place I can always find peace is at night when I listen to my ipod. Music always finds a way to carry me away from the troubles of the day. When I am listening to my ipod-- I am calm and have no worries.(Verb Appositive) I am at peace with myself. Peace could also mean no wars and violence in the world. If humans could all drop their weapons and jump on the peace train, we would all be home soon. There is too much hate and anger in the world for no reason. Because of all the violence and hate, innocent people have to suffer. Lastly, I can always find peace outside; whether it’s the beach, mountains, or the river. (appositive) Being outside and away from everyday problems is a great way for me to find peace. Finding peace with myself can sometimes be a difficult thing, always trying to find ways to escape my dilemmas, digging deep for a little sanity, like a oil drill digs for oil. (cumulative sentence with a metaphor.)

In the book Tale of Two Cities, and A Rainy Morning, there really isn’t too much peace. However, Lucy being reunited with Dr. Manette is a great example of peace. When father and daughter were reunited after twenty years they were both truly happy--embarrassing each other in their arms.(Verb Appositive) According to the Dalai Lama, peace can be achieved through happiness. Also, the Marquis being killed can be perceived as an example of peace. The Marquis being murdered wasn’t peaceful, but because he died there will be no more suffering for the poor. This appalling (thesaurus word) dictator had harmed innocent people for years. Lastly, in the poem, A Rainy Morning, peace can be found in the lady. Even though this lady is in a wheel chair she is at peace with herself. She is not harming anyone, and she is not mad at the way she is. In my life, Tale of Two Cities, and A Rainy Morning, peace can be found in the rarest places.

In order for the world to be a safe and peaceful place, people need to find happiness. Why must people fight over things not worth fighting for? Start off by finding peace in your own life, finds a place where you are tranquil, find a place where you are calm, find a place where you are truly happy.

I think this is one of my better essays. I really took the time to check it over for mistakes. I am hoping I do not have one grammatical errors. I also tried my best on the special sentences. I feel I have met the requirements for them. Overall I took my time, and carefully thought out each sentences. I think I deserve a B- for this essay.

  1. Sam,
I really enjoyed reading your essay. You are a very skilled writer. When I was reading your essay however, there was some awkwardness through out it. I believe if you read your essay out loud you will be able to hear how it sounds a little strange. Other then that great job sam!

  2. Hey Sam! I really enjoyed reading your essay. I really like your first body paragraph because it had a nice flow to it and you were very specific. However, I did notice some mistakes. For your third sentence of your first body paragraph, it starts with a introductory clause, so you need a comma after "ipod". Also, throughout your entire essay you seemed to use a lot of short sentences. You should try to split up the short and long sentences more evenly to help for a better flow in the essay. Amazing job Sam!
