Outline

1) One core value I find in TOTC and my life is integrity

2) It can be found in a few places in the book

3) Also a few places in my life

TS-In TOTC integrity can be found in a few characters.

SD-One example is Carton taking Charles place in jail

CM- The only reason Carton came to Paris was to be the “man who would give his life, to keep a life you love beside you”.

CM- It shows great character and courage on Cartons part

SD-Charles going to help his loyal servant Gabelle from being killed in a prison

CM- Charles going to this hostile place to save his servant, “Like the mariner in the old story, the winds and streams had driven him within the influence of the Loadstone Rock, and it was drawing him to itself, and he must go.(252)

CM- Its shows great character because he is willing to help a friend in need no matter the risk.

SD- Mr. Lorrey

CM-“A Man of Business, that looks out for the family

CM-Where ever the Manettes go, he is there checking in on them.

TS- In my life there are many people with integrity

SD- I have acquired my own morals that I try and follow, through family, church, music

CM- One is not gossiping

CM- I try not to spread, or make up negative talk about others

SD- Also, not falling into peer pressure, or following the crowed

CM- For example, stick up for my believes, like not doing drugs

CM- Or following my religion

SD- Also, trying to be a honest person

CM- I try to live my life of the truth

CM- Instead of living my life in a tangle of lies

CS- Choosing the harder path, and following my own beliefs of what I think is right

1) I try not to follow the crowd, live by my own beliefs

2) Try to do the right thing

3) TOTC and my life is a great example of integrity

Closing the Circle:

An Essay about Themes in My Life and A Tale of Two Cities

In the novel A Tale of Two Cities and in my life there are many reoccurring(bell) themes that seem to keep surfacing. These themes in the book and in my life seem to show up, then come back, like a circle. It’s almost like these themes are starting to be tied together or closing a circle.

TS-Now that A Tale of Two Cities is coming to an end, themes from the beginning of the book are starting to show up again. One major theme that comes to my mind is Mr. Lorry being called a “man of business”. All throughout the book Mr. Lorry has been referred to as the stern, serious, man of business always calm, professional, and careful with his money, always thinking of new ways to secure his money.(coordinate cumulative sentence) . Mr. Lorry is at times a good friend that enjoys relaxing, but Lorry, “ is above all a man of business, and tries to reduce everything to business terms”. SD- Violence is another theme that has been seen throughout the entire book. CM-Violence started in the streets of Saint Antoine when a man, “scrawled upon a wall with his finger dipped in muddy wine lees—BLOOD”.CM- Now at the end of the book the Guillotine is slicing people’s heads off creating a river of blood. SD-So far this entire book has been a giant mystery that keeps peeling back its layers, revealing its scandalous(fast) truth. CM- One mystery in the beginning of the book was why Jerry Cruncher had "rust on his fingers". It turned out it was because of the tools he used to excavate(fast) peoples dead bodies. Perhaps the biggest mystery is if Charles Darnay is going to escape? CS- Now all of these themes are finally being tied together into one big knot.

TS-In my own life there are a few reoccurring themes that keep showing up.SD- One of the major themes in my life is being happy then sad. CM-Depending on what has happened in the course of the day determines my mood.CM- At one point in the day I could be on top of the world, then, if one thing negative happens I could become miserable(fast). SD- Another theme that seems to appear in my life is work and relaxation. CM- Doing the daily grind of school, sports, and homework gets tiring after awhile. However, soon it will be the summer and I will be able to completely relax, have no stress, no responsibility, no worries, and no work, just me doing what I want to do.(coordinate cumulative sentence) SD- The last theme that comes to my mind is having no worries. CM- As a kid the only thing I have to fret(fast) about is school. CM- However, one day I will have to face the real world where I have a lot of responsibilities. CS- Just like A Tale of Two Cities all the themes in my life are reoccurring and being tied together into one big knot.

Both in my life and A Tale of Two Cities everything is starting to close the circle and come together. Some themes will come together faster than others, but eventually everything ties together connecting the circle.
